I am a 33-year-old woman who has chosen to live life in a world I want to surround myself in. Some may call it a false perception of reality that actually occurs in today’s society. My work is motivated by emotions of vulnerability, isolation, anger and fear. It describes the stories of my dreams and tells the story of my world. I have an over-active imagination; it does not rest until the story is told in a drawing or results in an object.
I started drawing birds when I was a young child after watching them in my father’s birdhouses. In my most current work, the bird is the carrier of the story, representing me or someone I love. The search to find the balance between the bird as an object and the bird as narrator, sustains my interest, my dreams and my fears. Through creating objects and sculpting my story, I become part of this relationship by enabling another’s experience and imagination.
